Standing easy

A quick painting because I haven't touched photoshop in a while. Could spend a lot more time refining but it was a quick paint over to remove some rustiness. Subject: a soldier taking a break from patrolling while keeping any eye on the tall grasses.

Top image is a w.i.p of a not so practical field medic with what was suppose to be captain markings but I couldn't squeeze all four bands in. The thumbnail is of an old arctic explorer.

Colouring In

Just trying to use gradient masks to add colour. Slowly getting the hang of adding more than one into the gradient to achieve saturation.

Why did I even bother?

Closest thing Ive done to art in a couple of days in between studying for exams. First was a picture of me doing a firefighting course. The second picture, my mate asked me to photoshop a picture of his car so he could get an idea of what it would look like if he did some mods to it.

Because I haven’t touched my wacom in too long, I went back painted over my old pictures just to see where I am at.

QUEEN W.I.P

This is a W.I.P repaint of an old painting. This is the first painting I've done in about 6 months. With that, Im pretty happy as Ive been able to pick up form where I stopped very easily and with better results in half the time. I like the character of the original sketch and will try to incorperate some of the abstract details.

Im not going to bother finishing this one... I started it befor my computer broke. thought I might post it up anyway. And yeah I had a phase recently of doing cleichet subject matter... its fun to do and requires very little imagination ; )

More Doodads

Here are some more sketches from work. I couldn’t be bothered fixing up the proportions on some of the character sketches, besides I’m doing this from my garage because my other computer is broken.

More Faces

Lately I’ve been revisiting old Photoshop files and seeing if I can improve on them. Also with this image in particular, I tried a new technique of adding colour to black and white sketches. Previously I had had limited success by using colour overlays in Photoshop. However the other day a mate at work showed me how to use gradient maps to add multi-tonal colours to images, this allowed me to get colours with nice saturated gradients which I was previous unable to achieve. For a first attempt it's not too bad; however I'm planning to use this technique a lot and hopefully will improve retrospectively. In the image I’ve added the original as a comparison. I eventually gave in and went on the net to look for references to help nut out the shapes of particularly the eyes. I find that if I look at references and other art work the quality of the final results is much greater.

Robin (or there abouts)

I’m quiet pleased with how this speed paint turned out. Only took about 30mins during lunch. I decided to try painting something that I wouldn’t usually think about painting. Just to freshen things up which seems to have paid off!
